60 Miles for Goatacre – Barry & His Grandchildren’s Tandem Challenge!
On 5th & 6th September, our wonderful volunteer Barry is taking on a very special challenge to raise much-needed funds for Goatacre Farm Animal Sanctuary – and he’s bringing his four grandchildren along for the ride!
Barry has built an incredible SS Tandem, originally created to take part in the Bromham and Calne Carnival processions. Now, he and his grandchildren are putting it to an even bigger test by attempting to ride an amazing 60 miles over two days!
And this is definitely no ordinary bike ride. The tandem is big, heavy and slow, so covering 30 miles each day will be a real challenge!
The family will travel along the A4 between Calne and Marlborough and back, with Barry’s grandchildren taking turns riding alongside him. Their parents will follow in a support and safety vehicle throughout the challenge, giving the riders a chance to swap over, rest and keep everyone safe along the way.
Why are they doing it?
Barry is a much-loved volunteer at Goatacre Farm Animal Sanctuary, and he and his family want to do something special to help support the animals who call the sanctuary home.
Every penny raised will go towards helping us continue to provide our rescued animals with the food, care, veterinary treatment and safe home they deserve.
Running an animal sanctuary comes with huge ongoing costs, and fundraising like this makes such a difference to us.

If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as valuable. Please help us spread the word and cheer Barry and his family on as they take on their 60-mile adventure for the animals!
