60 Men Die By Suicide Every Hour Of Every Day

60 men die by suicide every hour of every day around the world. And so, this Movember, I am running 60 miles - for friends that are gone, and missed so madly it makes my throat hurt, and for friends that I hope are in it for the long haul.

60 men every single hour feel like they’re out of options, feel isolated, feel

desperate, feel absolutely terrified of letting anyone down or losing face.

I am running because, for so many men out there, the feelings above are all too relatable. And, I am running because all of these deaths were and are preventable. Societally and culturally, we have made it harder for men to ask for help when they’re struggling. Men face alienation, ridicule, or perhaps even silence when expressing so-called weakness. And so we must, urgently, break down the stigma around mental illness and normalise the idea that men can show emotional vulnerability.

That is why, this month, I’m raising money for the inspiring men’s mental

health charity, Movember. https://uk.movember.com An organisation that has been championing men’s mental health since 2003, funding more than 1,250 projects worldwide and giving an even larger number of people a sense of solidarity with their infamous, moustachioed suicide awareness campaigns.
