Help Us Get a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle for Tadgh
My name is Kristen, and I’m a single Mom to my incredible six-year-old son, Tadgh. He has cerebral palsy and uses both a wheelchair and a walker. When he was born, doctors told me he might never walk or talk—but Tadgh has overcome every obstacle with strength, bravery, sweetness, and a quiet determination that humbles me every day.
He’s grown so much. He’s strong and smart and thriving—but we’re hitting a wall.
Without a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), it’s becoming nearly impossible for us to go anywhere. School, therapy, medical appointments, even the grocery store—everything requires a car. And not just any car. We need one adapted to Tadgh’s needs.
He’s getting too big for me to lift on my own, and our current vehicle can’t safely transport his wheelchair or support him as he becomes more independent. As he grows, his medical needs will only become more complex. Having a WAV with proper adaptations would mean he could get in and out of the car on his own, with dignity and safety, and have the necessary storage and space for his mobility aids that are necessary for him everywhere he goes.
There are no grants in Ireland to help families like mine purchase a vehicle, even though incentives exist for drivers of adapted vehicles. As a full-time carer, I simply can’t afford it. The average cost of a used automatic WAV with the adaptations Tadgh needs is between €20,000 and €30,000.
Tadgh has come so far. He’s fought so hard to live a full and joyful life. This is a chance to make that life a little easier, safer, and more free.
Please, if you can, help us make this happen. Every donation, share, or kind word brings us closer to the independence and dignity my son deserves.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
