6 Years, 6 Miles – A Birthday Challenge Like No Other!
Our little warrior, Oscar is turning 6 years old, and to celebrate, he and his new incredible assistance dog Niamhy, are taking on a 6-mile sponsored walk! -for the month of May, His birthday month!
This is no small feat- Oscar has hypermobility, among other challenges which makes walking long distances extra challenging. But he’s determined to push through with his best furry friend by his side, all to raise funds for Dogs for the Disabled!
Last week was a week that changed everything for our little family—our son was gifted his new best friend, Niamhy, from Dogs for the Disabled.
Dogs for the Disabled is an incredible, one-of-a-kind charity—the only organisation of its kind in Ireland. They work quietly, but their impact on families like ours is nothing short of life changing.
We’ve supported their work for a long time, but to now have our very own assistance dog is a dream come true for both us and Oscar. In just one short week, we’ve already seen amazing changes: Oscar’s confidence is growing, he’s walking further, regulating better, and forming a bond we know will only grow stronger.
Each fully-trained assistance dog costs around €15,000–€20,000, and Dogs for the Disabled rely entirely on public support.
They’ve recently purchased their dream home which they hope to renovate, allowing them to train more dogs for more children in need—but they can’t do it without us.
We want to help, and we’re asking others to do the same. Whether it’s spreading the word, donating, or fundraising, every bit of support brings life-changing assistance dogs to more families like ours.
