Please help Tom's recovery!

I got one of the worst calls in my life the evening of November 27, 2015. My parents had gotten into a one car accident. My dad was ejected from their vehicle and had to be Life-Starred to Hartford Hospital. Thankfully my mom was only bruised here and there but my dad was paralyzed. The next day the doctor was able to get him into surgery and Thank God it was successful! He was able to decompress his spine! Now we were on the road to start his recovery. He also had some trauma to his lungs so he had a trachea put in that weekend as well.

The period of time when he was in the ICU at Hartford Hospital was draining and very hard emotionally for all of my family. My dad couldn't speak so we had to try our best to lip read, most of the times unsuccessfully. As you could imagine, this wasn't easy for him either! Luckily over the weeks my dad was getting a little stronger and stronger each day, until he was discharged on December 31, 2015. He was then brought to Gaylord Rehab in Wallingford, CT. Here he was able to get his neck brace off, his trachea out, and eventually lift his right arm close enough to his mouth to feed himself a chip! That was such a proud moment for us all! It was also at Gaylord where he felt my brother touch his feet! That moment was truly indescribable.

As much good that came from his stay at Gaylord, there were negatives as well. At the beginning of his stay his nurse overdosed him on pain meds, twice! He literally could have died and this haulted any further progression. As a result, insurance thought he was at his "max potential" and was getting ready to send my dad off somewhere else. The hurt my family felt from being told that was immense.

Unfortunately, on February 23, 2016 my dad caught pneumonia and had to be transferred to Midstate Medical in Meriden, CT. He spent a short time there while they cured his pneumonia and when it was time for him to be discharged and sent to rehab, no one would take him. Not Spaulding Rehab, not Hospital for Special Care, not even Gaylord again. He ended up being accepted to only Pendleton in Mystic, CT, which is basically a nursing home. My dad needs the best care he can get and a nursing home is just not it. Not to mention my dad had such high spirits towards the end of his stay at Gaylord and now he is depressed again and not in a good frame of mind. We need to get my dad out of there as soon as possible and we need to renovate their house in order to do so. Between the medical bills and the renovation, I am asking for any help possible! Nothing is too small and anything is greatly appreciated!
