Help the Ross Family

Friends and Family,

On August 8th, 2016 my mother, Lesa Ross, had a massive stroke sometime during the night. The stroke was caused by an artery in the left side of her neck becoming blocked and throwing a clot into her brain. My dad woke up around 5 in the morning to my mom making strange noises and would not respond to my father. Her eyes would follow him around the room, but she could not speak.

My dad called the ambulance and then my sister and myself. She was rushed to the nearest hospital where they told us it was a massive stroke and that they could not do much for her there. She was then careflighted to a hospital in Plano who specializes in spine and brain trama.

My mom has been recovering ever since that day. The process has been slow but steady. Each day she is improving in her speech. Because the stroke happened on the left side of her brain, the right side of her body was affected. This means she lost the use of her right arm and her right leg. At this moment, she can move her right leg although it is swollen. Her right arm has feeling, but she cannot move it or her fingers. This is challenging because my mom is right handed. We have begun the process of reteaching her how to write. She is able to complete puzzles, read, a spell words that she hears with an app on her iPad. She can fully understand everything that is said to her, but she has a difficult time telling us what she needs, or just having normal conversation. This has been especially hard for me, as I used to call my mom every day and talk to her.

The insurance company had been great at getting things paid for and moving along. However, as time continues moving forward they have begun paying for less and less. My mom does receive disability but it is not a lot. This has caused a financial strain on my family, and why we decided to go ahead and start a gofundme.

My dad does work, but because of my mom he is unable to work as much as he used to. This has caused the only real income of the house to lessen over time, even though bills need to be paid. My dad also recently hurt his back which has lead him to not be able to work as much.

We are not a family who asks for help. In fact, this is not something we are very comfortable with asking for. My parents need help financially and they can't do it on their own anymore.

I (Sarah) have given my parents money, time, and energy and will continue to do so to help my mothers recovery. However, I can only give so much in the way of money and so I am reaching out to those who know me and my family and possibly others who do not know us. Please consider donating in order to help my family feel a little more comfortable. Any amount is appreciated and will go towards things like medicine (my mom takes 13 pills at night alone), diapers (my mom is relearning how to use the restroom), groceries, medical bills.

Thank you so much,

The Ross Family
