About three years ago, we met our now dear friend Becky. It all started with a MeetUp that Becky organized for 30 Something Ladies, and three years later we have a friend group that is filled with laughs, memories, and stories that will last a lifetime.
Becky was recently diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer, called metaplastic disease. Metaplastic breast cancer accounts for less than .01% of all breast cancers, and is often very resistant to standard treatments. We were all completely blindsided and devastated when we heard the news.
As her friends, we want to help and support Becky as best we can. Becky's treatment plan will start with a clinical trial, but her oncologist will be regularly assessing her response to treatment, and her treatment approach may change multiple times. Because many aspects of her treatment will likely fall outside of the typical standard of care, it is very likely that she will incur significant medical expenses. Additionally, as a young cancer patient, Becky is hoping to utilize cold-caps to prevent her hair from falling out. Unfortunately, these caps are utilized as part of standard treatment in Europe, but incur great expense in the US.
Those of you who know Becky know that she is the type of person we all aspire to be. She always puts others before herself. By profession, she is a social worker who currently works four jobs, all focused on helping others. She would save the life of any animal that she could. We have all received support from Becky in difficult times in our lives. We are hoping to give Becky the support she has given so many others.
Whether you are part of Becky's direct support system as a member of her family or friend group, or have never met her and have found yourself on this page through her friends, we hope you will support Becky through her journey as she shows cancer who's boss. We have no doubt that Becky will beat this disease. Please help us to make sure that cost is not a factor that impacts any available option to her.
