A month ago Obie was diagnosed with an immune disease called ITP / IMT.
The treatment / medications for ITP has now caused rare complications. His developed a stomach ulcer, which on Monday ruptured and perforated his abdomen. Leaking bacteria fluid into his stomach, causing sepsis.
His had emergency life saving surgery Tuesday to remove the ulcer and fluid.
After a successful surgery on Tuesday, we now wait for him to recover. Due to the immune disease and steriods, his at a very high risk for infection and a slow recovery. Costing approximately $2k a day (currently on day 4), plus $5k for the surgery, $5k for the scans. It's safe to say this total bill will be approximately $15-20k. Which must be paid in full when Obie is discharged from the hospital (regretfully no pet insurance).
These costs aren't including the expensive medication his going to be over the next few months. Or the $9k+ we've already spent over the past few weeks.
His in very good hands at Mornington Peninsula Vet Hospital, feeling optimistic. But the surgeon has reminded us the recovery will be the hardest hurdle for Obie.
Obs has been my best friend for almost 10 years. My life would feel empty without him in it. Anybody whose met him knows his still so young at heart. We hope and pray his got years of healthy life ahead of him!
We understand times are tough. Even just a few dollars takes off a huge amount of financial pressure.
Obie loves you ❤️ Laura
