Irvington High School's track and field team, led by Coach Wayne Stone, is not your basic athletic team.
Not only is it a team of dedicated athletes, but it's also a micro community of fun, motivated, energetic and hardworking individuals who strive to finish what they've started. Any one who has been a part of IHS' track and field team in the last few decades knows this by heart.
While our teams have always consisted of the best and most dedicated, we haven't always had the best equipment or track/field to practice on. This is due to the lack of funding, so every year since probably before most of us were born, the special track and field coaches have always tried to raise as much money as possible, but only enough to support basic equipment (hurdles, starting blocks).
Our current track and field needs constant maintenance and given that Mother Nature has her way of damaging the track/field, it's not always the safest place to train. Please see below.
Not only is there no funding to replace the track and field, the coaches and students must fundraise for basic annual expenses like track meet entry fees, travel, transportation, etc. Our district has very limited budget and can only cover basics like insurance and local meets.
That's why we need your help.
Since I've known Coach Stone, he's wanted nothing more than just a decent all-weather track and field for Irvington High School - an area where students can practice safely. This will also be used by all students during P.E. and other IHS sports teams.
An all-weather track and field is not cheap, so Coach Stone and I have planned to start off with this amount to help with the basic foundation of an all-weather track. We plan to fundraise this much before the season starts so we can start planning when school is out for the summer.
