Riding to Beat Cancer - 150km in a Day!
Donation protected
On Saturday September 30th Kashta and I will be biking 150km from Cobourg, Ontario to Toronto finishing under the CN tower. The goal is to raise $350.00 per km cycled.
Why would we do this you ask? Is that far? Have you done this before? How will you prepare? How can we follow? Great questions:)
Why?
Our sister, Simín was recently diagnosed with invasive metastatic breast cancer that by the time of diagnosis had spread to her lymph nodes. She's 35 years-young, and none of this makes sense nor seems fair. She has a treatment plan and is receiving fantastic medical care where she lives, however every appointment, chemotherapy, and post-chemo surgery and radiation are out-of-pocket. We want to lessen some of that financial load and continue to get her access to the best care possible to beat this thing. We set the 55K goal as that will cover the first rounds of chemo which is the immediate step in her treatment plan and initial surgery.
Is 150km far?
In short. YES:) For us, definitely. It is double the distance either of us has ever ridden. It will be a physical test as well as a marriage-tester! Time to completion is estimated at ~9-10-hours. (this will depend on pace, breaks, arguments....:) etc)
Have you done this before?
No. :)
How will you prepare?
We plan on trialing each section of the route over the next 7 weeks. Roughly 40-50km sections at a time. That along with more prolonged time in the saddle to get the toosh ready for a day straight of peddling!
How can we follow?
If you wish to be on the email for a pre + post race update (we will not spam will emails do not worry) please email and I will add you. (gofund me provides you with my contact)
We will be posting our journey on Instagram leading up to the event and recording live the day of. Follow Emma at - @egdolph.
Thank you in advance for reading:) Every little bit counts and we appreciate all your support, love and well wishes! All donations will be going directly to Simín's medical expenses. The family's boxing gloves are on and we are all in her corner. Cancer does not have a chance.
Love,
Emma & Kashta
xoxo
