Help us help the Pancare Foundation!
Hi my name is Aaron. Coming up four years ago a close family member was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Often, we feel helpless, as we have watched them persevere through chemotherapy treatment, radiation treatment, becoming a diabetic, dealing with the long term damages of treatment, numerous stents, medications, numerous appointments, hospital stays and ongoing pain. They have kept fighting past their initial 10 month survival prognosis. We are forever grateful of their fight and perseverance through this all. We got to thinking what could we do, so the future of pancreatic cancer has a much better story of survival?
The Pancare Foundation are doing excellent work raising awareness of pancreatic and upper gastrointestinal cancers. Their purpose “is to increase survival and provide support to people affected by pancreatic cancer and other upper gastrointestinal cancers”. Funding is needed to increase this awareness, research and ultimately the prognosis.
We are taking on two challenges and seeking your kind donation to the Pancare Foundation:
1) A team of five will complete a 24 hour relay swim challenge on the 23 November 2019 at the Bold Park Aquatic Centre; and
2) My wife and I are taking on the 2020 Channel 7 Port to Pub Hotel Rottnest as a duo on the 21 March 2020.
The Pancreatic Cancer survival statistics are scary:
- It is estimated that in 2019, 3,599 new cases of pancreatic cancer will be diagnosed in Australia (1,889 men and 1,710 women).
- Pancreatic cancer is projected to be the 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths by 2030.
- Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality of all major cancers with 9.8% of patients reaching the 5-year survival mark. Two thirds of pancreatic cancer patients die within the first year of diagnosis.
- Survival rates for pancreatic cancer have not changed significantly in nearly 40 years.
If all we have is now, let’s make decisions now that will lead to a better future for everyone. It’s time for us to make a change, join us in the fight against pancreatic cancer today. Donate at the link below.
