5yo Blythe is having open heart surgery

Meet Blythe!
Blythe is a bright, bubbly, and spirited 5-year-old with a generous heart and a love for craft, Barbies, and hosting tea parties! This year, she proudly started kindergarten at Dodges Ferry Primary School. She also happens to be my son Julian’s bestie!

On 16th April, Blythe is set to undergo life-changing surgery at the Melbourne Children's Hospital. Her family has waited years for this vital procedure, but they are now facing financial challenges. They need support to cover the costs of flights to Melbourne, along with expenses that will arise during Blythe's recovery in the hospital. These include transport, activities to entertain Max—her neurodivergent older brother—and ways to keep Blythe comfortable and engaged as she heals.

The family's situation has been made harder by the recent loss of their car, which has complicated their daily lives.

Blythe was born with right atrial isomerism (RAI), one of the most severe forms of congenital heart disease. In simple terms, her heart developed with a large central hole and a single valve instead of two. Despite these challenges, Blythe’s courage has been nothing short of inspiring.

Her journey so far:
  • At just 1 year old, Blythe underwent the Bidirectional Glenn procedure, which connected her heart to her lungs, improving her heart's ability to oxygenate her body.
  • At the age of 3, she endured a heart catheter procedure.

Now, Blythe will undergo the Fontan procedure, a critical surgery to redirect unoxygenated blood flow from her lower body through her lungs before returning it to her heart and significantly increase oxygenation in her body. Other than a heart transplant, this is the final surgery available for Blythe and promises to transform her life. It will allow her to participate more fully in activities and keep pace with her peers.

Blythe’s resilience and joy have touched everyone who meets her. Now, her family needs your help to make this life-changing journey possible.

Please consider supporting Blythe and her family as they navigate this challenging but hopeful chapter. Every contribution will make a difference in easing their financial burden and ensuring Blythe has the brightest future possible.
