David’s Road to Recovery

On February 17th, 2023 I received a call from my Dad letting me know my nephew David, who is like my other child, got into a car accident. My nephews’ girlfriend Morgin was driving and David was sitting in the passenger seat. They were on their way to Great Falls to spend the weekend with my Mom and Dad. When they were in the Wolf Creek area they came around a bend and there was a guy in a Side by Side sitting in the middle of the road with no lights. Morgin swerved to miss him and hit his front driver side taking the tire off. David and Morgin swerved on the road a couple times finally going into the ditch and rolling 3 times at some point the vehicle was in the air at least 10 ft which is when David flew out of the passenger seat and into the back window. The male driving the Side by Side was arrested for blowing over the legal limit, receiving a DUI. The male DID NOT have insurance OR a drivers license. David and Morgin were taken by ambulance to St. Peter’s Health in Helena, MT. David was admitted to the hospital where he stayed until they were able to find and fit him in a back brace. David has a compression fracture in his T6 vertebra and a burst fracture in his T9 vertebra. David will be wearing this back brace for at the very least 3 months. At that time he will be reevaluated to see if more time in the back brace is needed or if surgery is in question. His discharge instructions were very ADAMANT to lay completely flat on his back while sleeping and he can stand but he can only sit a couple minutes per day. He also cannot lift anything more than 2 pounds. My nephew is a hard-working young man who has worked for the same company for two years as a Concrete Finisher and going back to work will depend completely on his recovery. With that being said David was paid weekly at his job and that was the only income coming into the house at the time of the accident. Therefore leaving monthly bills such as rent and utilities not to mention the medical bills that will be coming in. Morgin is taking care of his physical and daily living needs which doesn’t allow for her to get a job at this time.
