Our names are Jon and Shellie Black and we are Steve Vail's brother and sister-in-law. Steve's wife Jenny is Shellie's sister. We're setting up a GoFundMe account for Steve and Jenny to help them pay the expenses associated with Steve's brain cancer. They're in need and if you can help, we would appreciate it. If you can't help financially, please pray for Steve and his good family.
Steve has three loves - his wife, his children and Volleyball! He is the color commentator for BYU Volleyball on BYUTV. As with most anyone who is reading this (and even the viewers on BYUTV), we both feel like we have a special connection with Steve. As we've talked about it, we honestly feel like everyone who knows him feels the same way.
Yesterday, our families attended the family funeral of a sweet cousin who died less than 3 months after being diagnosed with cancer. Ironically, Steve left the funeral luncheon saying he wasn't feeling well, then proceeded (without telling anyone) to check himself into the emergency room at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. After an MRI revealed three cancerous masses in his brain, he was immediately admitted and surgery to remove one of those masses was scheduled for this morning. They'll treat the other masses with radiation and chemotherapy.
Steve had a melanoma about a year ago, but was subsequently cleared, so this came as a big shock to everyone.
Steve celebrates his 45th birthday on Monday! He and his wife Jenny had their sixth child four months ago.
I don't think words on a page could ever express our gratitude for your help - even if $5 or $10 is all you can donate. We're just hopeful that we can all step up at this critical time of need for the Vail family and help them in any way we can.
Thank you so much for your donations, love, concern and for your prayers on Steve's behalf.
God bless you,
Jon and Shellie Black
