December 20- we got to pick up Merle last night by surprise to us when we went to the vets to drop them off a card and some chocolate. He had a bit of an unsettled night but he’s back on his kibble, eating small portions every few hours and getting pain meds and anti nausea meds. We can’t thank you all enough for helping our boy & are so relieved to be home all together. Merry Christmas everyone, you sure helped make our Christmas special this year.

December 18 post-op update:

Sweet Merle is out of surgery! They found a linear foreign body in his stomach and intestine (like a string) and it was stuck between the two. Sometimes with that there’s risk it basically saws through the intestine so luckily that didn’t happen, they just had to make another incision tho. He’s got an NG tube right now hooked up to suction to get out some extra fluid then they’re going to feed him through it. Hes resting comfortably in his crate there & im going to call again in the morning for another update and eta for pick up but will probably spend the night again tomorrow❤️‍ We truly couldn’t have done this alone, we can’t thank you all enough.

Hi everyone, my boyfriend Sam and I are reaching out for support to help with a surgery for our dog Merle.

We got our sweet cocker spaniel just in October of this year and has very quickly grown to be the personality of our house let alone a huge part of our hearts.

As most of you know, puppies are so curious and sometimes hard to watch all the time. Merle started getting sick this week and was quickly taken into the emergency vet the other night when he was throwing up pretty consistently. X-rays were done and showed a foreign body in Merle’s intestines/stomach. He was put on IV fluids to hopefully help pass this object. The repeat xray performed unfortunately shows the object hasn’t moved. After consulting radiology, they’ve informed us surgery will be needed to save our best friend.

We’re reaching out to our friends, family and communities for help as the estimate is around $8,000. We know it’s already such a hard time of year for everyone. The smallest bit truly does help. We would be forever grateful for whatever help we can get and appreciate everyone’s time taken to read this post.
