This is our boy Arlo. Arlo is 9 months old & was recently diagnosed with Legg-Perthes. It's a painful orthopedic condition in young, small-breed dogs (usually 4–11 months old) where the ball (head) of the femur loses blood supply and collapses. This causes degeneration of the hip joint, resulting in lameness, muscle atrophy, and severe pain. Surgery, such as a femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHNO), is required for recovery. Symptoms include progressive hind limb lameness, pain in the hip joint, crepitus (grating sound), and atrophy of the affected limb's muscles.

Arlo has stopped using his back left leg and is having his pain managed with medication. This condition is bilateral, meaning it will eventually happen to his other leg. We found a surgeon who is able to do both his legs at a fraction of the cost as most places, which is still out of our means.

Arlo is the sweetest, most loving boy and the first dog we have welcomed to our family. Arlo was brought home with hopes of many years of amazing memories. My kids and I couldn't imagine waking up or coming home without our boy waiting for us. My oldest son, who is 7, would be absolutely devastated to lose the dog he has wished years for. If we are unable to get him this surgery, we would have to decide his best options for quality of life. Any help with the costs for this surgery would be extremely appreciated and mean the world to my kids and me.
