Help Robyn Get To Italy!

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Robyn VanLeigh and I am a first year master’s student pursuing a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Utah. I am originally from Lenoir City, Tennessee (a small town just south of Knoxville, TN) but I relocated to Salt Lake City in the fall of 2015 to attend graduate school.

(Hey look, it's me.)

Performing has always been a fundamental and important part of my life. I’ve been blessed with opportunities through my education that have provided me with experiences beyond anything I could have ever imagined. And this specific opportunity is quite simply the chance of a lifetime and one I hope you will be able to help with.

(Me as Elettra in Utah Lyric Opera Ensemble's production of Idomeneo.)

I have been cast in the lead role of Alice Ford in Giuseppi Verdi's Falstaff this summer in Italy as part of the Montefeltro Festival through the La Musica Lirica Program. The opera will be played by Orchestra Città di Ravenna under the direction of Pietro Billi, assistant conductor and vocal coach for Sarasota Opera and Florida Grand.

(The lovely Novafeltria, Italy)

La Musica Lirica is an intensive five-week opera training program in Novafeltria, Italy.  The purpose of the program is to gain hands-on training and experience for advanced singers that have begun or are ready to start a professional career as an opera singer. During the first four weeks, I will receive up to 20 hours of Italian per week, two half-hour weekly coachings with Rossini Opera Festival coaches, and two forty-five minute voice lessons per week. Finally, during the fifth week of the program, I will be able to participate in Master Classes with the resident faculty as well as visiting guests.

While this program is a brilliant opportunity, it comes at a high cost. And with my out of state studies at the University of Utah, I’ve been stretched financially to the limit and beyond with providing funding for school.  Tuition for the program is $5,200 and all money raised during this campaign will go not only towards tuition, but the other expenses that are NOT included in my tuition which I have estimated to be around $2,700 (this includes airfare, bus fare, and living expenses.) I do have a deadline for paying for this program with half tuition being due April 25 and the rest on May 15. Any money raised beyond my goal will go to my education for the 2016-2017 school year.

With your support, I will be able to experience an immersive and in-depth opportunity with La Musica Lirica. And Alice Ford would be my first full operatic principle role. This program reflects heavily on the professional world of operatic singing with past attendees going on to experience great success and I know the insight and knowledge I will gain from this program will prepare me to better enter the performing world after completing my graduate studies.

(Action shot.)

The appreciation in my heart for all those who have influenced, guided, and supported me to where I am now is beyond words. And I hope now that this will reach those of you who have made that difference in my life and even to those I might not know, any help goes along way so even if you can only donate $5, anything truly helps. And even if you’re unable to not give monetarily, please share this gofundme page with your friends.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to read about this fundraiser. This really is the opportunity of a lifetime and I am so hopeful I can make this a reality.

All the best,
Robyn VanLeigh
