Babette She-Ro 4 The People

My name is Babette Peyton.  I grew up in Chicago. I started wanting to go to the Olympics when I was six and was a top swimmer on a  YMCA team with other girls who were 10 to 12 yrs of age, but my family did not have the money for training or a Coach.   In High School, although at 5’2” I was one of the top State track stars in the 220 low hurdles and offered a Track Scholarship, I remembered what was said earlier about not having money for training or a coach so even thinking about the Olympics was a no. I turned down a 4 yr. College  track scholarship so as not to raise my hopes.  Although I had the opportunity &  privilege to participate in regular youth Sports, Arts, Summer Camps, & Culture Outings from my schools and programs at the YMCA, YWCA, the Chicago Park District,Chicago Youth Centers, the Boys & Girls Clubs, Abraham Lincoln Center, Youth Centers also on the West side where I had relatives,  the Southside Art Center and the DuSable Museum where one of my Godmother, Dr.Burroughs was, I had erased the thought of ever going to the Olympics from my mind.  Now, after having  written my Obituary after having been put abruptly into a  Nursing Home as a progressive injury from the military finally left me paralyzed on my left side and wheelchair-bound.  And since my Mom, my Dad, my older and youngest brothers had also died, I was also distraught. because  I could no longer take care of myself, I never stopped believing in God.  GOD gave me another chance, new hope and a great Blessing through the disguise and encouragement of 2 lady Veterans at JBVAMC who brought me to the attention of the VA and DOD who sponsored and sent me with an Aide to a Military & Veteran Paralympic Sports Camp for in Newport Rhode Island to try Adaptive Sports as Rehabilitative Therapy.  It was there when I tried Archery and hit 2 Bullseye shooting with my mouth and hand.  I cried.  I knew that God had another purpose for me.  Something inside told me that my next mission in life was to encourage Veterans, Military and others who are disabled live their lives besides smiling and still trying to be inspiring to others  through kind words. God has given me a Sport called Archery and a Sister competition to the Olympics - the Paralympics to compete in. My highest national archery score is 299 / 300 shooting my bow and arrows from my wheelchair & pulling back 45 lbs. with my teeth. I have progressive injuries from the military that left me paralyzed on my left side and wheelchair-bound. I need your help because the Journey To The Paralympics is EXPENSIVE. Costs include: equipment; training; coaching; my personal care aide who sometimes doubles as my archery agent; registration fees and uniforms; airfare, specialized transportation and lodging. More importantly food cost. As representative of the USA paralympics archer, the Journey takes me all around the world for international events leading up to Tokyo 2020- my dream. I do realize my potential in archery is a costly endeavor but it is worth it! I'm proud to represent all Women, Paralympics athletes, Civilians, Military and Veterans regardless of boundaries and definitely my country, USA. I'm actively involved as member of the following organizations, Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Vaughn Chapter, Disabled Americans Veterans (DAV) Patton Chapter, American Legion Dorie Miller, AMVETS and the USA Archery. I started and continue my partnership with many affluent charitable organizations in establishing the Young Entrepreneurs of the Universe, Veterans Initiatives and an anchor host for the weekly Radio WBGX 1570 AM, The Big Gospel Xpress, Chicago Access Network CANTV Channel 21- Honoring Veterans First- Support, Health and Hero. I continue to actively volunteer in youth, community and church programs and activities throughout the Chicago area. To date, I'm blessed with 117 Medals and still counting within a short 6 year period. Congratulations on all YOUR successes. This Journey is a success trip together that you can claim as your own too. I welcome any manner of support that you can provide for Team Babette Success. Thank you, Be Blessed, Much Love.
