Paxton’s Lucky Left Leg Surgery

Those of you who know us - whether personally or via our Instagram account @walterhoula - know how much our dogs mean to us. Many of you know we added a third dog to our pack in March when we foster failed an amazing pup from Bella’s Bully Buddies. Born three days before Christmas 2017 to a stray mixed breed mama from the Carolinas, Paxton and his ten brothers and sisters were rescued by Bella’s, places in foster homes, and eventually adopted to their forever homes. Pax came to us as a foster but we quickly realized he would be with us forever. He completes our pack of rescue mutts, joining Walter and Bodhi. Since May we have been monitoring a small limp. We recently received an official diagnosis of congenital valgus elbow subluxation. This translates to genetic bone growth issues that have caused his ulna to grow the wrong direction causing his radius to bow and partially dislocate his elbow. The only solution ahead of us is surgery. Our amazing vet has linked us with an orthopedic specialist who will perform a distal ulnectomy. This means they have to go in and remove a portion of Pax’s ulna bone. This will force the bones to grow back together the proper way and for elbow joint to realign. We are now on the clock. We need to have this procedure performed in a matter of weeks before Pax’s growth plates fuse together. If the issues is not rectified now this will cause severe pain, his elbow will fully dislocate and he will stop using his leg all together. Pax, aka Chill Paxton, is a smart, happy, fun loving dog who has his entire life ahead of him. He is only 8 months old. The surgery has a great success rate if performed before the growth plates fuse. If there is anything you can do to help us save his leg and his quality of life, we would be forever grateful.
