It is with a heavy heart that I, Sarah, am writing this today. On May 26, 2026, my brother Jeremy’s home and workshop were consumed by fire. Jeremy had been working at the front of the house, and when he walked around the corner at the back, he saw his woodshed on fire. Using what he had, he tried to contain the fire with the garden hose. As some of you know, the wind along the shores can be funny, and while he was trying to extinguish the woodshed, the wind shifted direction and the fire jumped to the house. After the smoke cleared only the chimney and part of the wall remain.
Jeremy sustained burns over his body, with severe burns on his hands and face. On May 28th, he was transported from the hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor, to Gander airport, where he was then medevacked to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. Almost as soon as he arrived the team was “gowning up” to begin treating him.
We don’t know what the road to recovery looks like for Jeremy, but it will likely be a while before he is healed and able to get back to work. Jeremy and the kids have lost so much, many heirlooms passed down from mom and dad, and both sets of the kid’s grandparents, many sentimental items, all of Jeremy’s work gear, and all day-to-day things that fill a home. When I say he lost everything, he lost everything. As Alicea is working in Japan, most of what she owns was in that home. Toby, the lover of music, lost his instruments and an amp from his Pop and all his personal childhood belongings. We know that some things can never be replaced, however we want to do what we can for them.
With friends and family across the country, many have asked how they can help. This GoFundMe is meant to help Jeremy start over while he begins the long process with insurance. We want to help ease the burden of things that are coming up right now and help ease the cost of “life”. Any funds will help him to get back on his feet and start the road to not only his physical recovery but also begin to rebuild his home.
Thank you for any donation you can give, it is greatly appreciated.
