Project Summary/Abstract Project Name: FELMAUSA Medical Mission Trip Liberia. Mission trip Location: Republic of Liberia Medical Mission trip date: January 12th to January 28th, 2019 Funding Target: $35,000 in cash and other in-kind services and resources over two years Target Population: This project target to assist 3000 vulnerable women and children, through the delivery of free medical care and health education services thru FELMAUSA Medical Mission Team collaborative and other health agencies in Liberia Need Assessment: FELMAUSA Medical Mission Committee was founded in 2010 in an effort to contribute to the health needs of post war Liberia. The goal of the mission is rooted in the vision of underserved communities becoming self-sustainable. FELMAUSA believe that Healthcare is the social good to maintain a functioning, productive society. Extreme poverty and lack of basic health care and education of healthcare profession led to many serious human tragedy and death in the Liberian society. Since 2011, FELMAUSA Medical Mission team has assembled medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, eye surgeons, and non-medical staffs to volunteer their time and expertise to save lives in Liberia. This organization also solicits medical supplies, financial funding and medical instrument for the sole purpose of helping Liberians. On our previous mission trips in 2011, 2013, and 2014 we served about 3000 patients suffering from various diseases. Many local hospitals, clinics and other medical institutions also benefited from medicines and medical supplies donated to FELMAUSA. During the 2014 Ebola crisis in Liberia FELMAUSA Medical Mission team, was able to galvanized millions of dollars of resources including preventative materials, treatment materials and other resources and shipped to Liberia. FELMAUSA Medical Mission team also featured many community educations both in Liberia and the United States to educate community member about preventative strategies, signs and symptoms of Ebola, and also the potential global effect of Ebola. We believe that through advocacy, outreach, awareness, and collaborative relationship with communities, we can improve access to preventative care, provide healthcare assistance and train to Community Healthcare workers. On July 14th, Felmausa Medical Mission Committee Team organized community health fair in a Philadelphia, PA where 45 Patients were screened for various conditions such as hypertension, stroke, glucose test. During the event, more than 200 pieces of male and female condones were distributed. Free medical education were provided on HIV,STD, heart disease, stroke and other health concerns. Project Summary: This project seeks to time and resource to provide basic and free healthcare to underserved and vulnerable women and children lacking access to healthcare in Liberia especially in the rural communities through need based assessment. We will conduct realistic assessment of the healthcare structure and institutes of Liberia. Communities lacking access to healthcare and the underserved will be provided free healthcare through FMM programs. Projected Goals and Outcomes: Our short term goal is to Organize and implement a Medical Mission trip to Liberia in early 2019 with the sole intent to improve the healthcare needs of the population through volunteers, health professional and paraprofessional. We are soliciting medical supplies and equipment to enhance care and make health delivery efficiency. Through this mission, we will promote health education, and health awareness; to underserved population, in collaborate with existing healthcare providers in Liberia. The Medical Mission will also provide access to healthcare in communities, towns, villages, and cities with a goal of enhancing both preventative and acute care through trained community health workers. Our long term goal: To ensure the sustainability of FELMAUSA Medical Mission, we intend to purchase an acres or two of land to construct a well-equipped medical center in Liberia, with a goal of providing healthcare to underserved communities. Partnerships: We have and continue to worked with the following partners in our previous Medical Mission trip to Liberia and continue search for more partners.
