Help the Smith Family
Jessica Smith (Jessie) is a wife, mother, daughter, and sister. Those that know her know she is the most kind, loving, and generous woman around. Unfortunately it seems that life keeps throwing her and her family some curve balls.
With the support of her family, Jessie has already battled and beat Hodgkins Lymphoma when she was 18 and was diagnosed with BRCA2 in 2014, which increases her risk of Breast Cancer to 70%-80%. Due to this she has been diligent in getting bi-annual exams.
Between May and June of this year, Jessie received abnormal imaging and was diagnosed with Stage 0 Ductal Carcinoma with one area of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Jon and Jessie spent the next month not only navigating life and caring for their child, but continuing with doctors appointments, additional imaging, visits to Stanford to meet with a breast surgeon and plastic surgeons to go over options.
After a LOT of prayer and advice from her medical team, at the age of 31, she has chosen to move forward with a bilateral mastectomy. I think we can all understand that this must have been one of the the hardest decisions of her life. At 31 no person should have to make a decision like that and it isn't fair. However, in Jessie fashion she is accepting it with grace and she feels better knowing she'll be cancer free and will have a 95% chance the cancer won't come back.
Her procedure is quickly approaching and scheduled for September 1, 2021 at Stanford. The family with be traveling back and forth between home in Orland to Stanford weekly for the next 3-6 months between the mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
Jessie and Jon will be required to take time off of work and will be missing out on income they greatly depend on. Any kind of assistance would be greatly appreciated to relieve any additional stress. We are with you Jessie, Jon, and Mackenzie! We love you guys and will be with you every step of the way.
