Getting my sight back
Spende geschützt
My name is Brenda. I am originally from Vermont. I moved to Rhode Island after completing grad school and becoming a Liscensed Mental Health Counselor. My dad taught me wood working when I was young. So when I bought my first home in Rhode Island 5 years ago, I was eager to do all the updates myself. Two years into the home and still had every room under construction, Ugh. I was about to make my final cut for a built in book shelf (on a table saw when I should have been using a chop saw, but I was in a hurry and excited to be close to done with a project). I put the 2x6 on the table and started cutting. The board got stuck and as I pushed it forward the board kicked back, slinging it straight up and into my forhead. It cracked my scull and the blood from the injury settled in my left eye. I now have a minor brain injury and a tramatic chatarac in the left eye blocking my vision. It has been three years since the accident. Originally the doctors said they did not think they could fix the vision, the risks outwieghed the benifits. Now with some progressive changes in the eyes the doctors are thinking they will be able to do surgery to remove the tramatic chatarac and regain most of my vision. I then had to fight with the insurance to cover the surgeries. Now that that fight is over, I learned that the recovery time is longer and more restrictive than I had anticipated. I do not have enough sick time to cover the length of the recovery, and I live alone and away from family so I do not have anyone in the home who will be able to care for me or my pets. The money I am requesting will help to cover my costs of living while I am unable to work and the cost to hire someone to come to my home 3-4 hours a day to care for me and my pets. Since loosing my vision in the eye I have not been able to finish the work in my home, and have had other restrictions on my life activities. By fixing my vision I would be able to return to most of my activies that require depth perception, and it is believed the opitcal migraines I have developed will also subside. I know we have two eyes and I did not realize how much this accident had changed my life. I feel that the correction of my vision will be a huge step in regaining most of what I had lost in myslef as a result of that accident. I would be so greatful to anyone who can help me on my journey. It is humbling to have to ask for help and I would appreciate if all donations are made anonymously. Again thank you for helping me get my sight back.
