Madison's Road to Recovery

My Name is Charley Voorhis, and my niece Madison, who was
only 28, suffered a catastrophic stroke on Nov 1, 2024.

Madison's life changed forever and because of a delay in treatment, her recovery has been long, painful and challenging.
Madison spent a total of 6 months in three different hospitals. She had to relearn the most basic functions: opening her eyes, breathing on her own, eating, talking, and learning to walk again.
For more than three months she was unable to speak even a simple word. While she continues to work hard every day, speech is still a struggle and though she is working tirelessly to walk again , she is not yet walking on her own.
Today, Madison is finally home and with my sister, Clara and her husband Rod, but her journey is far from over. She attends regular physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and psychological therapy. The goal is to see her gain her independence and walk again someday. She has shown incredible courage and determination and her family is committed to supporting her in every step of the way.
This has been life changing for everyone in Madison's family. Clara and Rod have been working around the clock to assist Madison in all of the practical challenges that come with recovery. They have alternated schedules traveling to and from hospitals to ensure someone was always by her side while maintaining full time jobs. In the meantime, ADA accommodations were made in the home for Madisons arrival, and a wheelchair lift was added to the deck atop a steep driveway. Through all of this, they have remained positive and determined to make life safer and more accessible for Madison. We are hoping to assist them with a few more necessities for accommodating a place where Madison can continue her growth on her path to independence:

  • Build an attached garage so she doesn't have to face inclement weather conditions when traveling with a wheelchair to the car.

  • Secure a larger vehicle that can better accommodate her wheelchair and equipment making it easier to get to therapies and appointments.

All donations will directly support these essential needs for the family.
