Derek’s Medical Funds

On Saturday May 14th Derek was in a traumatic four wheeler accident. He was life flighted to Essentia Health where they were unsure he was going to live. After several scans they determined he needed to have surgery on what they thought was an aortic dissection. Once they started surgery they found nothing wrong with his aorta. What they did find was a serve fracture to his sternum that tore his pericardial sac. Most people that have a sternum fracture as large as Derek had or they very large tear in the pericardial sac would not be here with us. Several doctors, nurses, and staff have stated that he is very lucky to be here with us. God and his angels are truly watching over him.  Derek’s lungs have severe bruising and he has multiple rib fractures. Because of this he has been placed on ecmo. Essentia Health does not have ecmo so he had to be flown last night to Hennipen County Medical Center. This morning I spoke with the nurse and he was able to give her a thumbs up when asked and wiggle his toes. So we know that he is in there and with us. He will have a very long road to recover so we would appreciate all of the prayers! We can not thank everyone enough that has reached out and have prayed for Derek and our family.
