My name is Kahindo Musongera. I was born in Democratic Republic of Congo. I have two brothers and three sister. When I was six years old, my family moved to Uganda seeking refugee because there were constant wars in my home town. Life was hard in Uganda and my parents hardly got any money to buy us food. Luckily, the Catholic Missionaries of the Poor paid for my elementary and middle school fees until we came to the U.S in 2013.
While in Uganda, I learned to speak Luganda and English to add to Swahili and kinande which I already spoke. When we moved to the United States, I was very happy but at the same time, I was sad because I had learned that just because you left a country with wars that did not necessarily mean that life would be easy. But I knew that with hard work, my life would be better. So I strived to do my best at everything I did. I worked hard at school and graduated with a GPA of 4.0 despite English being my second language while I was also playing sports and working.
I graduated at Round Rock High School with a 4.0 GPA and I was accepted in Texas A&M University, College Station, TX where I will be attending school this fall and I will be majoring in psychology. I did not receive enough financial aid to cover my tuition. I am able to cover some of the tuition through work and the scholarship from the Optimistic club. My family is working very hard to make a life here and cannot afford to help me pay for my tuition. So, I am asking for your support to help me pay for my tuition. In Africa, girls have less opportunity to attend college and it has been always my dream to get a college education so that I can be an independent woman who will later give back to the community when I become a psychologist.
