Hi, my name is Sabrina Alvarado. I'm asking for your support during one of the hardest times of my life.
When COVID first hit, my dad got sick. The virus led to a stroke that left him partially blind and forced him into early retirement. Sadly, that was only the beginning. Over the years, he suffered multiple strokes, lost his ability to speak, move, was implanted a feeding tube, and eventually became fully bedridden.
Last week, he was rushed to the ER because my mom and I noticed my dad breathing differently than usual and he was less active than usual. We were told it was just a UTI and they would discharge him soon. I couldn't believe it was only a UTI because his baseline was different, so I kept asking and pressing about his condition. The doctors still insisted it was a UTI and he's probably like that because of previous strokes or because of the infection in his blood but could still be discharged. The day before they were thinking of discharging him, I asked the doctor again and they said he was fine. An hour later I received an important call to make a decision. My dad's breathing suddenly became very shallow and he couldn't breathe well. I was asked if I wanted to put him on life support and I said yes.
My dad has always been kind, witty, shielded me from danger and is deeply devoted to his family. He taught me strength, love, and forgiveness. Now he needs my help and your help more than ever.
I'm raising funds to help fulfill his final wish to be buried where his mother, my grandma, is at. Any amount you can give will go directly to his funeral costs and help bring peace to our family during this incredibly painful time and help put an end to my dad's suffering.
