Dear friends and family.
Usually by this time of year we have completed our yearly fundraising and John is somewhere in the world on a mission trip. It could be Africa, Haiti, Columbia, Nicaragua, the list goes on. Wherever he has been lead to help he has been first in line to do so. This year has bought on a different type of mission.
In March John left work for medical reasons. His many years of pushing beer on concrete floors has completely destroyed his knees. We had a surgery date set for the end of April for a replacement procedure. Unfortunateoly Thats when Covid hit and the surgery got indefinitely postponed. He continued to volunteer with the Red Cross when it was at all possible to fulfill his desire to help.
In July he was flown over to Norfolk with severe back pain and underwent an emergency Abdominal Aortic Anuerism repair. He had a stint put in and the procedure went well. However while they were in there, the surgeon immediately diagnosed a cancerous mass on his Kidney. Renal Cell Carcinoma. It had been "overlooked" on a previous CT scan from the year before. Of course if it were detected earlier the mass would have been a fraction of the size.
His partial Nephrectomy was this past Tuesday. The surgery went perfectly and the remainder of the kidney was saved. Amen. When they removed the breathing tube his lung collapsed and he went into respiratory failure. He was Reintubated and on 80% oxygen. The following evening he had a nice bout of Tachycardia with a heart rate of 154. All of these things of course postponed his coming home. An over night stay had turned into 6 days. I had my time arranged off with several days post Op to be home with him. His total of 6 incisions on his left side has hindered him greatly. Well my days off have come and gone and unfortunately my position had to be filled. I didnt think it wise after those complications to leave him alone the following day while I went to work.
Since March we have basically survived on my income and a ss check. Our resources are depleted and i have lost my job. We do not live a frivolous life, we dont vacation, we dont shop, we survive. We have applied for disability but that takes a minute or two , in fact its up to a year.
The plans we had in mind have completely crumbled and has left us in a situation we never saw coming. His knees are still awaiting surgery and on hold even longer now with the cancer.. We know without a doubt God will provide for us. John is a true servant from all depths of his heart. We know right now he is being repaired for a bigger mission yet to come.
