Hello friends, family and Fellow Chiliheads!
Please help Alex Sweeney raise money for the Medical Bills of her boyfriend Drew Pryor. Every dollar counts!! Please help them. This is what Alex has told me in our conversations:
I talked to Drew, and he doesn't want to ask for help, but he never does, for anything. The bills are starting to come in, and they will bury us if we aren't careful. Like you, lots of people have asked how they can help, so instead of pushing them away like he is trying to out of embarrassment, I am allowing anyone in to help as they please.
As many people know Drew got really sick really fast, and didn't want to go to the ER, so I took him to MedStop Saturday 1/2/16.
His heart was so overloaded, he was only there 20 minutes before the paramedics got there to stop and restart his heart to stabilize him enough to get him to French Hospital ER.
He was admitted that morning into the ICU undergoing every treatment possible for severe streptococcus pneumonia, sepsis (blood infection), avoiding a lung collapse with only 20% lung function at best, a weak heart, and kidney failure.
The entire hospital, including administration, was on his case because he was so sick, he was not expected to survive.
Over 90% of patients with his diagnosis don't pull through, and the medical staff stated that had he been just a little older instead of 31 and strong, he would not have survived.
His 18 day stay in the French Hospital ICU included his step-down stay because the entire unit was so invested in his case that they didn't want to risk letting him go until he was ready to leave the hospital all together.
Due to spending 3 and a half weeks in a bed bed from being so sick at home and in the hospital, Drew was transferred from French Hospital to a rehabilitation center for a couple weeks to regain his strength under close medical supervision for his safety before letting him go home.
Even once he is home he will have to continue physical therapy to work towards getting back his strength to be able to return to his work which includes lifting heavy materials to build anything anyone dreams up.
Even though this journey seems to be on a happy downhill run at this point, because I have chosen to be by his side every day, I foresee a lot of bumps in the road with the financial end of it starting to pile up.
Thankfully Drew's insurance is helping with the overall costs we have recently acquired.
Unfortunately, on top of our normal bills for ourselves and Penny's Vet bills, we are already responsible for $7000 of Drew's medical bills, and it is still rising because he is not done with this ordeal.
Drew hasn't worked since before Christmas because he got sick with what we thought was the flu, just after the holiday weekend, and I have not worked since the first of the year, due to staying by his side.
We are not ones to ask for help, we are the two that help others, and if we can't afford it, we don't do it, but this is was not something we could have foreseen or planned for.
Everyone asks what we need or how they can help, well, taking some of this burden off of our shoulders to help keeping stress off of Drew's currently weak heart is a great place to start.
xoxo
Thank you
