I’ve been battling lupus since my teenage years. After numerous rough patches, I wound up with kidney failure and on dialysis in 2018. I’ve been on dialysis since, with one rough patch after another. This year has proven to be the toughest year of my life. I ended 2020 being intubated under an induced coma. Nothing has been going my way since. I wound up having a seizure due to my persistent hypertension. Parts of my body have suffered from extreme swelling. It’s been a traumatic 6 months....
My mother has been in the process of getting cleared to give me a kidney. After a couple setbacks, she finally got cleared. That’s when they began waiting on me. I have a team of doctors who have been racking their brain trying to figure out how to stabilize my health. Well, today (on my fathers birthday) I finally got the news I’ve been waiting for. I’m cleared for kidney transplant surgery. Now, as I wait for a surgery date, I can’t help but reminisce on all the heartache and pain that’s been endured. I can’t believe my mother, the one who brought me into this world, is going to give up a piece of HER to save my life. I’m so incredibly thankful. Thank you for bringing me here, and thank you for preventing an untimely exit.
