Thanksgiving 2014, Mark Marianovich entered the emergency room with the first overt signs of the lymphoma that had been insidiously manifesting inside him for the last 5 years. Mark had gritted his way through abdominal discomfort, not knowing a tumor was growing inside. The tumor was now secreting fluid, and Mark had over six liters in his abdominal cavity. The proper diagnosis for Mark’s silent discomfort was finally discovered: Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage 4.
Mark Marianovich is a second generation Chicago Police Department Officer with 28 years of service. Mark most recently served for 7 years as the Chicago Police SWAT Team Commanding Officer before his promotion to Captain in June of 2015. Mark is a strong man and a true leader who is often called on to make the tough decisions. He is a man of integrity who never complains. He is always there for those who need him, but Mark is not one to ask for help. Mark has tirelessly served the city of Chicago while raising four children. His family, loved ones, and friends know he needs help now. Their mission is to provide Mark with the emotional support he needs, but will not ask for.
Mark’s mission is to rid his body of cancer, and this continues to be a long, painful battle. Once diagnosed, Mark endured six grueling chemotherapy treatments from December 2014 to April, 2015. He continued to work as he received treatment! Mark was in remission for only six short weeks when it was discovered the cancer mutated to a more aggressive form of lymphoma. Mark is now enduring more aggressive chemotherapy treatments and radiation in preparation for a stem cell transplant, which will take at least 100 days to recover. Mark’s mission to rid his body of cancer should not be troubled with the mounting medical bills that come with fighting this disease.
Mark’s family, loved ones and friends will continue to be there for him physically and emotionally through the endless doctor appointments, tests and treatments while Mark continues to bravely and silently battle this ugly disease. Mark will not ask for help, but we will ask for him.
