Help Steven Macagne Rebuild After Devastating Fire

On Friday, April 3, 2026, our brother, Steven Macagne lost everything in a sudden and devastating electrical fire. The apartment he rented above a two-car garage, along with the garage itself, was completely destroyed. Fueled by high winds, the fire spread quickly and burned intensely, leaving charred remains behind. He narrowly escaped with his life. In the process, he suffered burns to his head, arms and hands. While he is deeply grateful to be alive, he now faces the overwhelming reality of starting over from nothing.

Inside the garage were the tools and equipment that supported his livelihood: my pickup truck, mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, generator, compressors and other essential landscaping tools. He also lost his personal belongings, including his beloved musical instruments, guitar, bass, and drums as well as nearly everything he owned in his home above.

Steven has spent nearly four decades (38 years) working as a highly skilled landscaper, lawn maintenance professional in the Gardiner and New Paltz, New York area. Since 1988, he has built a reputation for exceptional workmanship, reliability and integrity. Longtime clients and colleagues consistently describe him as one of the most dependable and talented workers they’ve ever known. His former employer once called him “the best worker I ever had.” Customers of more than 30 years continue to vouch for his precision, and dedication.

In 2013, Steven faced a major setback when he suffered retinal detachments in both eyes. As a result, he lost sight permanently in one eye. Remarkably, Steve returned to work the following year and continued performing challenging tree work, hedge trimming and landscaping with remarkable determination and skill. Earning even greater respect from those around him. Beyond his work Steve is a creative and thoughtful person. He is a musician, songwriter, poet and gardener at heart. He is someone who has always taken pride in working hard, helping others, and building a life through dedication and resilience.

Unfortunately, at the time of the fire Steve did not have insurance to cover his equipment or belongings. Now he is left with nothing but the will to rebuild. And we know that is exactly what our brother wants to do. Steve is not someone who sits still. He is eager to get back to work, to rebuild his tools, his business, and his life. We love Steve and want to help him which is why we have helped him create this page. We believe that with all our help, he can begin again, replacing essential equipment, securing stable housing, and continuing the work he has devoted his life to.

Any contribution, no matter the size will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page so others can help. Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
