Meet a Christian.
A believer, a provider, a family man, a friend, a father. A man that upholds his faith to the highest standard and believes in spreading the word of God to share in his joy of hope and love. Fervent in his journey to his heavenly destination and to bring as many people with him as he can.
Meet Christian.
A Disney lover, A Star Wars fanatic, A God-fearer, an unusual optimist, Olive’s dad, a War Eagle, an ALS fighter.
In May 2020, during the height of the pandemic, little did Christian know that he would begin the biggest battle of his life. It was not until his wife, Natalie, began noticing some personality changes and speech issues that he started exhibiting. As the months passed by, Natalie noticed his muscles twitching, his speech became more slurred, and he had generalized body weakness. Having a background in Occupational Therapy, she knew that something was very wrong. After many doctor’s visits with second and even third opinions, a trip to the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville confirmed what we she had feared. Christian was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or what we all know as, Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a very progressive, neurological disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of voluntary muscle control. ALS affects the ability to move, speak, eat and breathe. In most cases, ALS is sporadic, and the cause is unknown. However, specialized bloodwork at the Mayo clinic showed that Christian has the rarest type of ALS that is caused by a mutated gene. This gene is responsible for causing ALS associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Both neurological diseases are devastating and fatal.
In December of 2020, Christian lost his job. He became unable to perform to the standards desired by his employer. He lost his job, his income, and his health insurance...all of which, are essential for him to fight and maintain his quality of life.
While Christian has applied for disability, he will not be able to receive the funds needed for his medical care for at least 6 months. These months are crucial for his care and quality of life. Christian needs access to an infusion drug, Radicava, that works by keeping motor neurons healthy, in order to preserve muscle function. However, this drug is awfully expensive; costing about $20,000 per month. Even though there is no cure for ALS or FTD, this drug can assist with his quality of life, as he hopes to be around long enough to see his daughter grow up.
We are looking for supporters, friends, family, like-minded Christians to come together for one of our very own.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 to allow Christian to receive the medical attention needed to fight this terrible disease. Our goal is to buy time. To give Christian more time with Natalie and their 11-year-old daughter, Olive. And hopefully, bring a little hope to an already hopeful Christian.
