Making life better for Sheryn Partington (formally McLaughlin) (wife of the late Bob Johnstone). Following a near fatal car crash, caused by an individuals reckless and careless actions Sheryn has suffered a severe brain trauma. Her other injuries include - a major facial laceration requiring major surgery. Lumbar Spinal fracture, lacerated spleen requiring surgery, a fractured cheekbone, carotid-cavernous fistula requiring further surgery to the brain, a twisted bowel caused be previous surgery to repair the spleen, this too required surgery. She had severe bruising to more than 70% of her body. First responders did not think she would survive the airlift to Westmead. Due to all of this my mum is no longer able to live completely independently. However, anyone that knows my mum will understand how difficult this would be for her. The situation is made more difficult by the fact that the brain trauma, and less than adequate treatment since, has left mum not only scared of being alone but also (for the time being ) easily irritated by noises and lack of her own space. After many discussions with mum and Drs it has been decided that the best course of action is to build a granny flat close to the house so that mum is still close and safe but also has her own space to do her own thing. We are doing as much of the work as we can but, with all of us recovering for the mental trauma (myself, mum, Robert and Alice were all in the car) and me recovering from a broken ankle/foot, Robert from a broken femur, much of the work is falling to David (who arrived at the seen not knowing if any of us had made it out). Unfortunately due to all the injuries caused by the crash both mine and mum's plans on returning to work have been put on hold indefinitely and neither the lifetime care package, nor liable party are willing to pay any cost associated with the build. So I am starting this page (unbeknownst to mum) to try and raise some money to help towards getting a granny flat put on our block so she can finally come home to us. This woman has helped so many people in her lifetime with no expectation of receiving anything in return. She deserves to be happy and free in her own home surrounded by the things she loves and not in a single room with no real space of her own. Any donation will help and be greatly appreciated.
