Support Jocelyn’s Recovery

Jocelyn is one of the most energetic, free spirited, independent women I have ever met. She has been a sister to me through the most influential chapters of my life. A few weeks ago, I got the call that no one can ever be prepared for. Jocelyn, little bean, had been in a horrific motor vehicle accident and was being airlifted to VGH to undergo multiple intensive surgeries. Cracked ribs, broken tail bone, pubic bone, pelvic bone, femur, knees, fractured jaw, and road rash, Jocelyn against all odds is still with us providing us with that amazing energy we all love her so much for.

There are no words to describe how horrific it feels to hear that someone so young and full of life is now battling against all odds. As I sat next to her in ICU holding her hand praying with every aspect of my being that she would open her eyes, the thoughts of everything consumed me. In a true testament to her character she has fought through the pain of all the surgeries, fought through the emotional trauma that comes from a massive accident, and has fought each and everyday through the pain to work on recovering the movement in her legs. I want to add that through this horrific and trying event, Jocelyn has been undeniably appreciative and polite.

This is a long journey. Jocelyn will be unable to stand for approximately 3 months, and will have to learn to walk again. Jocelyn is currently living in Vancouver but will be returning to Nanaimo for rehabilitation. Among the stress of the accident itself, she is faced with the somber fact that on a serving wage she will be receiving minimal medical benefits. An unfair part of our society is that even when you are faced with the most traumatic experience you will likely ever go through, your bills still pile up, rent still needs to be paid, and medications are outlandishly expensive.

Many of Jocelyn’s wonderful friends have reached out asking how they can help ease the pain or discomfort she is feeling. I ask you to help us ease the all consuming stress of her financial burdens off of her so she can focus on recovery.

When life sends us upsets as horrific as this experience, watching the community pick up one of their own and provide them with the support they need to feel less alone is so inspiring. While Jocelyn should have been living her adventurous life going on road trips, hiking, and enjoying nature, she will instead be spending this time in the hospital, working every day to manage her pain, learning to walk again, and feeling the overwhelming support and generosity of those who love her so much.

Thank you so much for all the well wishes you have sent, positive energy, and now your donations.
