Hi My name is Megan, I am fundraising some money towards Chief, here is his story, It started last year It started as a mild case of sweat itch... we thought. until it got increasingly worse and we are where we are now. this is our only option before we have to make the tough decision of euthanasia as his quality of life is no longer there. he is unbearably itchy 24/7 to the point he will literally drop to the stable floor to itch on anything he possibly can, the owners, Charlie and Jon have done everything they possibly can to try and soothe and fix the issue, Here is what we have done so far, Blood tests, dietary changes, nutritional consultants, Steroids, Anti histamines, homeopathic remedies, sedatives, anti depressants, skin scrapes, rug changes, hoods, bedding changes, topical treatments like creams sprays oils, environmental changes, location changes, treatment for stomach ulcers and this is only of the top of our heads, Like us all we will literally do anything for our horses, but we are at a dead end and we hate to say it. We do not want to give up on trying to help him but unless we have the funds to get a specialist or further tests like allergy testing we have been told that the best option is to put our chief to sleep. this is a hugely tough decision for the owners to make as chief was such a delight once upon a time, and a lot of locals know him extremely well as the big friendly Giant. As a result of all the issues chief has been extremely distressed, he has damaged his skin by itching with his feet, teeth and on anything he can. It is honestly horrible to watch. We are also now struggling with narcolepsy and this is our other problem we are dealing with.
I think the goal from this fund raiser is to obviously, hopefully raise enough funds to have allergy testing done. we also appreciate that not everyone can donate but we would appreciate any advise or a share on any public platform of chiefs story to reach as many people as possible to try and help our friendly giant to recover. It would also be worthwhile promoting the lack of research on skin conditions within horses, therefore we would like this to reach any researchers within the equine industry, as everyone involved, from friends to professionals including vets have run out of ideas of what we can do next to help him.
Just a friendly disclaimer, only positive comments and help is It would also be worthwhile promoting the lack of skin conditions within horses, therefore we would like this to reach any researchers within the equine industry, as everyone involved, from friends to professionals including vets have run out of ideas of what we can do next to help him.
Just a disclaimer that this is an extremely sensitive and difficult topic for us to share and we only appreciate possitive comments and advise, and whatever the outcome is from this we will do right by our boy.
