Bentley’s story

Hi everyone-

Anyone who knows our family

knows a bit about the background of Bentley's health situation. Back in 2023, he was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta, one of the worst cases, leading to multiple fractures at a time, including shattered vertebrae’s, multiple broken arms, ankle, etc. Bentley has missed out on years of childhood due to the fragile bones, no sports, no gym class, no school trips. We've been making trips to CHEO to get Zometa infusions every six months, which have improved Bentley's condition dramatically. 2024 he was finally allowed to play sports. Last summer, he got to play soccer, and unfortunately, while warming up, he kicked the ball and immediately dropped to the ground, ending up in emergency, where we spent 13 hours. The specialist assured me his X-rays came back normal…. WRONG. Fast forward to April of THIS year, we went to CHEO for our normal routine round of injections, which include bone testing, MRI etc., and they found a huge bone lump that had grown on his hip which is causing him pain and complications. We were told up to 2 years before he would be fit into the schedule for surgery, not even two months later we received a call, one week in advance saying they’ve managed to get him in immediately. Now Bentley is facing surgery to remove the bone and reconnect some tendons where they belong, which means he will be out of commission for about two to three months. I'm asking for some financial help as we were told just a week in advance that he would be having surgery, and it's put a financial strain on me having to miss work, gas, and the stay in Ottawa, etc.
