Help our dear friend Barbara Forney fight the battle against Leukemia. Barb is fighting this cancer for the second time in 5 years. In 2016 Barb successfully underwent treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was in remission for nearly five years.
In the first week of February 2021 Barb and her family learned that the Leukemia had returned. Treatment this time is induction chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant to give Barb her chance for a cancer free life. After a quiet family weekend she started chemotherapy on February 9th and a hospital stay of four weeks. Praise God the first round of chemo destroyed the cancer cells in her blood and that she stayed mostly infection free.
Now Barb will be undergoing a stem cell transplant at the end of March 2021. The transplant involves another week of aggressive chemotherapy to kill her own bone marrow followed by roughly three weeks of recovery after the transplant all at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City two and half hours from her home town of Ames, IA. Because of Covid-19 the visitor policy is even more restrictive than normal with this type of transplant. Barb will have only one particular person allowed to visit for the entirety of her hospital stay. Craig, her husband, will be her visitor and he will need to stay overnight in Iowa City about fifty percent of the time. Then after a successful transplant, Barb will be traveling to Iowa City many times this year alone for checkups and continuing care.
Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a dreaded disease and this transplant is Barb's chance for a longer better life. Her living donor is ready and untold thanks to this brave and generous hero.
We are raising this fund to help with insurance copays and deductibles as well as traveling costs and stays in Iowa City to support Barb in her fight and recovery.
Many of you have been part of a huge prayer and support team via emails and Facebook. Now there is another way you can help Barb and the Forney family know that they are not in this fight alone.
