After-school Enrichment Gymnastics!
Donation protected
Hello to all! My name is Bridget Carreiro and I am a 3rd grade teacher at Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie in Port St Lucie, Florida. I have started this campaign to raise funds in order to purchase equipment that can be used for an after-school enrichment program in Gymnastics at my school. It will be the first time gymnastics has been offered to the students and I am very excited to get it started!
Gymnastics has been a part of my life since I was 8 years old. I trained as an Elite gymnast and competed all the way up through college with a Division I program. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA and an MS in Kinesiology and began coaching. Soon after, I decided to go back to school and become certified to teach Physical Education. This journey has led me to also be certified as a classroom teacher. While I enjoyed being a PE teacher, working in the classroom gives me a chance to combine both areas and give the students even more chances to be active throughout the day!
Currently I am a teacher by day, coach by night, and I have been coaching for almost 12 years at all different levels. Many of the students know that I coach gymnastics and wish I could coach them too, so what better way than to create a program at the school! After gaining approval, I have been able to promote the brand new enrichment program to be held on Saturday mornings, and the students couldn't be more excited! However, I have had a difficult time getting funding or donations for even the most basic equipment. With it being a brand new program, there is quite a bit of building to do!
In order to get started, I am looking to at least be able to get foldable mats to cover the tile floor to make it a safe environment, as well as a low beam, wedge mat, and small spring board to at least introduce some of the other events performed in gymnastics. Our programs will begin the week of 1/19, and it would be wonderful if I could be able to purchase some of the necessary equipment to start!
Children are not always able to have an opportunity to try out various sports or ways to be physically active. These enrichment programs give students that opportunity to be active and social in a safe environment! Gymnastics alone will enhance students coordination, balance, and flexibility in both their bodies and minds. It would mean so much to me to be able to bring both of my passions together and offer the students at my school something that has never been available to them before. Any bit will help, and I sincerely thank you for your consideration and donations!
