Stand up for what's right; support Dawn Sorensen

Yesterday, May 9th, Dawn's position as Director of Children's Ministries at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Southborough MA was immediately terminated for 'bugetary reasons'. Dawn's position at Pilgrim was a set at a mere 15 hours per week, and she regularly worked much more than that tending to the spiritual and emotional needs of the children, their families, and the congregation in general. In a time of declining attendance, Pilgrim leadership chose to eliminate the main position that would bring in and care for young families rather than creatively fundraise or try to grow membership. She was not given the opportunity to say goodbye to the community, young and old, that she loyally served for the past 3 years.

Dawn has shepherded my family through so much--times when one of my children wanted to die, times when I questioned my ability as a mother, wife, my place on my path, and my value as a child of God. Through all of it she has ALWAYS been there, giving faithful support, listening tirelessly to me and my children, bouying my family, lifting me up, bringing us meals when it all felt too much, sitting for hours in ER waiting rooms, providing literal and emotional safe space for me and my children, the list goes on and on. She is the most Faithful person I know, and her belief in God and unwavering trust in her path far surpasses any clergy I have ever met. I have witnessed countless Sundays where fellow congregants expressed to Dawn how much more affected they were by her children's message than the sermon. She deserves so much more than the diminishment the 'leadership' of this church has tried to project onto her. Join me in showing Dawn how much her community values her and her commitment to our full community--those who are believers, those who are not, those who are neurodivergent, those who are LGBTQ+ and their allies, and those who are not quite there yet. Amazing things are coming for her, let's help ease that transition.
