My name is Elissa Alemán, and on November 17, 2024, a few days after my 19th birthday, I was raped and filmed while asleep without my consent by a family member and sheriff’s deputy. I did the right thing and reported the sexual assault immediately, and my case is currently with a Deputy District Attorney.
After reporting, I was left without any family support or any stable housing. In the months that followed, I experienced severe housing and food insecurity and relied on motels, temporary spaces, and eventually my car to survive. My car has since become both my transportation and the place where I store my clothing, hygiene items, and essential belongings.
At 19 years old, I spent every day choosing between food, gas, and basic bills. I worked long hours while still showing up to school and clinicals. Despite my circumstances, I completed my nursing prerequisites and earned my CNA and EMT certifications.
Eventually, the combination of instability, work, and school became unsustainable. I made the decision to move about an hour away with the goal of building stability and a future for myself.
Any support, whether through donating or sharing, means everything and more to me.
