Support Michael's Journey to Independence

Hello!

My name is Michael and I'm just trying to see if I can raise money to help get my mother and I a mobility van, aka a van with a ramp, and if possible, to add hand controls so that I can drive as well.

A little bit about me: I'm 34 years old. I love music and have been a musician for 15 or so years now (really rusty though). I live in Colorado, but I was born in Oklahoma and have also lived in Indiana. I've had a rough past, but that doesn't define who I am now. In October of 2014, I became paralyzed from the waist down due to an abscess that formed in my L3-S2 of my spine. I've learned it's all about attitude and overall mindset when it comes to facing everyday obstacles.

The many reasons why I would like to start this campaign is to start traveling with my mother, who is my caregiver, and to have the ability to see my loved ones more often. She's been my rock from day one and has been my major support since my injury. We've recently lost our vehicle, which wasn't that suitable for the both of us, due to a minor car wreck that deemed the vehicle a total loss. No worries, mom is completely fine. Someone had backed into her vehicle while she was at the bank, and the repair cost was more than the vehicle's worth, so we took the loss to start saving money towards a new van.

I really don't like to reach out to anyone for help, and I've always kind of been that way, but I figured why not give this a try. With the income that I get from Social Security, it's just not enough to even consider getting a van. I'm hoping to achieve this goal so that we can start doing more and hopefully open up the avenues to even start working again.
