Rhonda’s Haven

One year and 2 months ago, April 20th, to be exact. My beautiful mother, Rhonda Gonzales, was diagnosed with stage 2, Triple Negative Breast Cancer. It was a devastating blow hearing the news for the first time but we were ready to fight. We took the cancer head on and went through the chemo. The first round didn’t do much, the tumor didn’t shrink or grow. She was getting the strongest chemo and yet nothing was happening. Second round came and the tumor grew. The doctors finally thought it was enough putting my mother through unnecessary chemo and they went straight to surgery and reconstruction. The tumor was successfully removed, however one of the lymph nodes was found with cancer. If you’re familiar with the cancer world, that’s not a good sign. Cancer in the lymph nodes means it has spread to another part of the body. And it did. This April my mother found more spots in her lungs. Again, we were ready to face anything that came our way, especially my mom. Fight the dragon once, you can fight it again. The wonderful nurses and doctors gave us a plan and diagnoses at Texas Oncology but my mother wasn’t satisfied and the doctors understood. She wanted a second opinion. A month after my brother had graduated high school, my mom and dad took a trip to Houston, Texas, to visit notorious MD Anderson. A famous cancer and research center that many have highly recommended since the beginning. Mama knew it was time to go. The doctors at MD Anderson told us the same thing. That the cancer in her lungs was incurable and that she had two years to 18 months to live. This blow completely shook our universe and the worse had yet to come. My mom told them of recent headaches she had been having so they immediately scheduled her for an MRI. The cancer had spread to her brain and she’s been given a year or less to live. This not only has shocked our home, our family, our lives but our community as well. Many of you may not know my mother personally or at all but I pray that in this lifetime or in any lifetime you get to meet her. She is a selfless woman who cares for not only the people in her life but for everyone. I am so blessed to have her as a mother and for her to have raised me with kindness, love and respect for others. She is and always will be the light of my life. She recently has spoken to us about wanting to get her affairs in order before she leaves. Including her funeral expenses/arrangements and traveling to New York and California (she’s been dying to see the Golden Gate Bridge). As a daughter I’m trying my best to fulfill these wishes as best as I can but like all broke college students, I need help. Today, I am making this gofundme to help raise money for my mother’s funeral arrangements and travel. Please donate whatever you can, every cent matters and is greatly appreciated. Love, Rhonda’s Angels.
