Figaro’s Amputation Fund

Hi friends and family! If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories then you already know this. But for those who don’t, last Tuesday, June 12, I was driving home from a doctors appointment and saw that a tiny kitten was in the middle of Burbank Blvd as I was getting ready to turn onto my street. I saw him move and he clearly had been hit by a car. I stopped my car in the street and stopped oncoming traffic, swooped him up, put him in my lap and drove to the vet hospital. This teeny baby had a severely open and broken leg and was sitting in the road in 90 degree heat moments away from being hit again. When I got to the hospital they needed to give him oxygen and run tests on him, one of them checking him red blood cell count. His RBC was much lower than normal, resulting in him being anemic, and also meaning he wouldn’t be able to have any kind of surgery immediately. In the meantime, they put him in a splint and soft cast. Upon further examination and looking at the X-rays, she concluded that he needs the leg to be amputated because the break is beyond repair. So after that, I was able to take home this precious baby until he was ready for surgery. I gave him his pain meds and antibiotics, hand fed him, made sure he was hydrated, and cleaned him up. We think he is around 6 weeks old now and he’s just a little over 1 pound! By day 2 with me, he was already looking so much better, with quite the appetite, and got to hear a few meows out of him! After a week, his RBC finally were at safe levels and he had his back left leg amputation Tuesday June 19th. He is doing really well and is meowing and purring and starting to hop around a little bit. We still don’t know if he will need another surgery, because his tail still has so much nerve damage and currently is not functioning. I have decided to keep him as my own, even though the timing is not exactly ideal. And I have decided to name him Figaro (like the cat from Pinocchio). Also feel free to refer to him as Fig, Figgy Pudding, Figgy Smalls, Figgy Piggy, etc. I am writing this post not for praise, but for help from those willing. I am not one to ask for help financially, however this is a special case because obviously this wasn’t something I planned to take on, but couldn’t ignore, or leave him to die, or possibly euthanized if he wasn’t adopted. I know that most people don’t want a “disabled” pet, so I didn’t want to take the chance. He is just the most precious little boy and deserves a good life. This GoFundMe campaign to help cover some of the costs for Figaro’s survival! If anyone is willing to donate even a few dollars, I would be so so so appreciative!! Thank you so much!!!
