Alfie’s surgery

Hi everyone,

I really never thought I’d ever have to make one of these. Anyone that knows me will know my dogs mean the absolute world to my family and I. Alfie has been very poorly over the last 3 weeks, we were told he had meningitis and was due to turn a corner with the medication he was prescribed.

unfortunately, he has gotten worse. He is constantly yelping and crying in pain, unable to move his head or move at all. This morning we thought we had lost him.

We are unsure what is wrong with him and more investigations are required. The vet (Hamiltons specialist veterinary clinic) have said a CT scan would be needed, the CT scan will cost around £5,000 alone. Alfie is insured, but only up to £4,000 which has now been exceeded after the first initial scan.

any donations to help my family and I pay these bills to give Alf a fighting chance is much appreciated. He is otherwise a perfectly healthy dog with no problems!

Alfie has had a further MRI and CT scan which has shown meningitis is unlikely. However the vet has found a source for the pain. Alfs got a bulging disc in his neck/spine which has dislodged and sitting in the completely wrong place, pressing on his nerve affecting his right side. He would need the disc removed completely but it's not straight forward. Would be a complex procedure that requires planning and specialists. He said Alfie should make a full recovery and would dramatically improve his quality of life. The problem is - money. This could cost up to £10,000 -  My dads retired and mum works part time so it's difficult. I guess I'm relying on donations at this point. It's hard knowing that we can do something but financially it not being feasible, this is the case for many families sadly

I’d like to stress that any remaining money unused, will be donated. I’d like to find a charity who supports families with financial aid with vet bills. Possibly thinking dog trust but more research required.
