Hi all, I am starting a campaign to help my highschool friend, Zenaida “Zeny” Bojo, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. This is what she said in her own words:
“I am a 39 year old public school teacher in the Philippines. I was diagnosed with breast cancer early June of this year and had a mastectomy (removal of right breast) last June 30. Fortunately, the tumor was localized and no invasion was found in nearby areas especially the nodes. My breast cancer was staged 2A, ER and PR + and Her2-. With this early stage, it is very curable.
However, to identify the best treatment, the oncologists I consulted suggested the Oncotype DX test. It is a standard of care for breast cancer patients in the US. It provides additional information on the type of cancer I have and will serve as a guide for the post-op treatment.
The test is not available in the Philippines this my tumor sample have to be shipped to the US. According to a website (https://www.bcna.org.au/understanding-breast-cancer/treatment/surgery/breast-cancer-pathology), the approximate cost is $4500. Post-op cancer treatment preferably should begin at least a month from the operation as I am still recovering from the operation.
I would greatly appreciate any support for the initial phase of my treatment.”
