Dear Family and Friends,
On May 16, 2020 My Beautiful Sister, Rita Hamilton had an emergency, life saving surgery called a subtotal colectomy. For some unknown reason a loss of blood flow to the colon resulted in her intestine dying. Most of Rita's large intestine and part of her small intestine were removed in this life altering surgery. What followed was multiple complications including double pneumonia and infections which led to sepsis. She spent the better part of 3 weeks in a coma and had a very close brush with the Grim Reaper. Rita woke up with an ostomy bag, a tracheotomy, a feeding tube as so on. On July 24, after 10 weeks in Jefferson University Hospital ICU and Intermediate ICU Rita was transferred to a long term acute care hospital. Rita is beginning her therapy: physical, occupational and speech and working on getting her strength back. Her next stop is inpatient rehabilitation. Hopefully that move happens this week.
After surviving esophageal cancer 10 years ago, Rita is once again in a raging battle and she needs our help. Rita has medical expenses not covered by insurance. She also needs our help with living expenses. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, Rita's livelihood and lifeblood, HAMILTON DANCE STUDIO in Brooklyn, NY is closed indefinitely. Most importantly, my sister needs your prayers and your good thoughts and wishes. She has a long road ahead of her, but like 10 years ago my beautiful, willful and spirited sister will fight with all of us pushing her forward.
Our cousin JoAnn Henry will be helping Rita and I with the financials. She has graciously accepted this responsibility and we are eternally grateful for her love and support throughout this whole ordeal.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION. They are deeply appreciated.
