Tammy’s Banana Stand Legacy Fund

Tammy Jane showed me the power of choosing to laugh instead of cry.

I met Tammy, my cancer momma bear as it were, through a small online ovarian cancer group she started. A space where strangers going through the same terrifying diagnosis quickly become something else entirely.

We shared fears, daaaaark humor, treatment updates, and the kind of honesty you don’t can't always share with people in your everyday life. Even building enough comfort and trust together to post our bald baddy selfies and recognize the strength in the community we were building. Somewhere along the way, internet strangers became cancer family.

Near the end of her "time in the soup," I sent Tammy a small comfort gift to her hospice, something I had also done for the other women from our little cancer corner of the world. Her last message to our group was simply thanking me for that gift.

I told her that while she most assuredly had many impressive titles in her life, I hoped she wore one with the most pride: Queen of the Twinkle Twats (iykyk: welcome to the club no one asked to be in, bonus designer vagina whut whut)

She replied:

"Thanks for making me laugh."

And honestly… I love that the last thing I gave her was laughter.

This fund exists because of her.

Because of all the other women, some of whom like myself, Tammy collected like the damaged little butterflies we were, that carried me through my own cancer trials and tribulations when my wings were still too wet to fly.

Because of the reminder that the way we love people while we’re here matters. Especially now, while the world dumpster fire rages on.

This is my thank you. And. It's also my very intentional middle finger to ovarian cancer.

What Tammy’s Banana Stand does:

This legacy fund helps provide small comfort gifts, custom Wish Kits, and practical support to people navigating ovarian cancer and it's aftermath, because sometimes what helps most is simply knowing someone sees you as a person, not a prognosis. Funds will first benefit those still in Tammy Jane's OG Humanist Ovarian Cancer Support Group.
