Shelly’s Braille Embosser

Thank you for visiting my Go Fund Me request page. I’m starting this campaigne to raise money to help defray some of the expense of a piece of adaptive technology that would make a big difference in my life. A group of friends suggested that I start a Go Fund Me, so I have decided to give it a shot. I need to purchase a Braille Embosser in order to produce documents created by myself and others via computer into a hard-copy format I can access, i.e. Braille. . A Braille Embosser is the braille equivilant of an ink or laser printer. I have already purchased the translation software I need to convert files from print into Braille at a cost of $750 including tax. The current embosser I have is litterally over 30 years old and has stopped working with my modern computer. I bought it used over 10 years ago. I did not receive a manual and cannot find one on line; nor can I find anyone who can provide tech support to help me troubleshoot it. It is time for a new embosser. For a color laser printer with wifi-capibility that will print on both sides of the page, you can expect to pay around $250. The lowest priced embosser with the same features, i.e. wifi-connectivity, and the ability to emboss Braille on both sides of a page is $3695 .00 plus tax and shipping. There are only 3 embossers that cost less than the model I’m trying to purchase. The first is priced so low because it is about to be discontinued and thus no longer supported. The other 2 only offer single-sided embossing. The model I have chosen also offers speech feedback from the unit when operating menues. It is portible so I can take it with me during my volunteer activities where it would often be most efficient to use embossed documents. The Index Basic V5 offers a USB port for firmware updates and it is the newest model offered at this time. This will be a once in a lifetime purchase so I have decided to go with the most current and up-to-date offering. Electronic devices and audio are all amazing parts of my toolkit I use to be as independent as possible but there is no substitude for Braille in the life of one who is blind.
