My family and I are in a heartbreaking and urgent situation. We are a hardworking couple with four children, but right now, we are living in a home that has become unsafe and unlivable. For months, our rental home has been overtaken by mold spreading through the ceilings and air ducts, caused by a broken AC system and poor ventilation. The landlord has refused to properly address these problems, even though Florida law requires her to maintain safe living conditions.

This mold is not just an inconvenience—it is making us sick. I have already been hospitalized for severe breathing issues, aggressive coughing, and difficulty getting air into my lungs. I was prescribed an inhaler and medication just to manage the symptoms of living in this house. Every day, my children are at risk of developing long-term health problems from breathing in toxic air in their own home. No parent should have to put their children to bed at night wondering if the air they breathe will harm them.

Despite all of this, instead of helping us relocate or refunding our money, the landlord and her property management company are holding our family hostage financially. Prior to move in, we paid $2725.00 of deposits and last month’s rent upfront, yet they refuse to release any of those funds unless I provide proof of a new residence. This is not only unfair—it is illegal. By withholding our money, they are making it nearly impossible for us to leave these uninhabitable conditions and move into a safe home for our children.

We are asking for help to raise the funds needed to move our family out of this toxic environment. These funds will go toward moving expenses, securing safe housing, and making sure our children no longer have to suffer from the negligence of a landlord who put profit before people. Every single contribution—no matter how small—brings us one step closer to safety, health, and peace of mind.
